Porsche GT2 RS

The engine of this car is a mechanical masterpiece designed by the best German engineers. The Porsche GT2 delivers 700 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. With a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, the engine sens immense power to the rear wheels. At its best, the GT2 RS will reach from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds and finish a quarter-mile drag strip in 10 seconds at a speed of 140 mph.

We can see for sure that Porsche doesn’t disappoint. They always deliver their promises and meet our expectations. The GT2 RS is the most powerful 911 produced by this company and is slightly faster than the 911 Turbo model.

For the GT2 RS, Porsche increased the performance significantly. It has more horsepower than the previous variants and sends them all to the rear wheels. Currently, this is the flagship of their motorsport division, which is RennSport.

It is well-known that the GT2 class does not allow 4WD or AWD, so only experienced drivers might push this car to its limits. Also called the modern Widowmaker, this car embodies ultimate road performance.

In an ideal world, all the 911 models would be AWD. However, things would get boring quickly. Some drivers in this world enjoy racing to the fullest, and oversteering can cause the accelerator to overpower the rear tires. It is called “throttle-induced oversteer” but is more popularly known as power slide or drifting.

That is why driving an RWD vehicle is so fun. It’s especially when you have an engine ready to deliver all 700 horsepower to the rear wheels. Just be careful not to overdo it, as this car is not easy to handle for inexperienced ones.

Top Speed

The official top speed communicated by the Porsche 911 GT2 team is 211 miles per hour. However, this speed can vary according to a couple of factors. There are many speed runs of this car. In particular, one of them shows the performance in the best ways.

A test run was conducted in Florida on a runway. The asphalt was at a temperature of 70 degrees Fahrenheit, and the humidity ranged between 60 and 70 percent. That is low and ideal humidity, considering the Atlantic ocean is situated right near the runway. It also means that the test was done at sea level for maximum air density.

The surface was flat and the elevation varied only by inches across the entire 3.2-mile length of this runway, which was built for spacecraft and heavy planes. The particular GT2 RS model used for testing had no modifications or upgrades, so it came in a full-stock option.

The test started with the car performing a launch control, which boosted the vehicle from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 2.7 seconds. After that, it took just 7 seconds for the car to reach 3 digits at 100 miles per hour. Just 15 seconds after, the car started rolling. The speedometer was showing 150 miles per hour.

The 200 miles per hour point was reached exactly 29 seconds after the launch. From this point, the speed increases slowly. However, the engine keeps delivering power, and the car wants more.

As the runway ended, the finish line was crossed at 219 miles per hour. It’s officially the tested top speed of this car. It’s 8 mph more than what Porsche expected for their GT2 RS model, so the results are fairly accurate.

The 3.8-liter engine from the 911 Turbo model was already among the best engines in the world. It delivers massive power to the wheels and making the car incredibly fast. Some people expected a ceiling, a limitation in potential, and no further progress.

The team at Porsche went further and developed a better engine for the GT2 RS model. It features a staggering 700 horsepower, an increase of 40% while retaining the same level of displacement as previous models.

It makes the GT2 RS more powerful than its predecessor by 80 horsepower in difference. The increased displacements also contribute to the massive 750-Nm torque, which saw a 50 Nm increase from previous models.

At the base, this engine is built upon the one fitted in the 911 Turbo S. It delivers a performance of 580 horsepower to its double-clutch transmission. The GT2 RS features modifications that include different techniques for upgrading the performance commonly found in the world of motorsport.

More air is forced into the combustion chambers, thanks to the bigger turbocharges installed. This process increases the energy conversion rate, especially with short gas exchanges at high speeds.

A record setter

This engine is designed to achieve 7,200 rotations a minute, which is a record among turbo engines. This performance can be compared to the one seen in the world of motorsport, especially in the GT2 and GT3 racing series.

With all the performance this car is packing, the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS can launch faster than some high-speed rollercoasters. It reaches 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds.

The engine can easily deliver track performance when it reaches a maximum power of 7,000 rpm and offers a combined 17 mpg at the same time.

GT3 RS vs GT2 RS

Porsche created both the GT3 RS and GT2 RS models intending to deliver the best performance on track while also being a street-legal car. While these 2 cars look fairly similar, there are a couple of differences between them.

The GT3 RS features a 4.0-liter engine which is naturally aspirated, while the GT2 RS has a 3.8-liter twin-turbo engine. Therefore, the GT2 RS has larger turbochargers and increased air ducts. Intercoolers and unique pistons are also present, and the unique feature of a water injection system can be found in this car.

While the GT3 RS delivers 500 horsepower, the GT2 RS can do 200 more for a total of 700 horsepower. Brakes are important, especially at such high speeds and during fast corners. The GT3 RS model comes with gray cast iron rotors, while the GT2 RS has carbon-ceramic brakes. It makes it more efficient.

Further differences are made in calibrations of their shock dampening, steering, and even rear-axle steering systems. There are many more differences between these cars, and you should pick the one that meets your needs best.

If you love racing and are familiar with tracks, GT2 RS is the best option as it is truly a street-legal racing car. But if you want to drive through the city with more comfort casually, the GT3 RS will be a better option. Either way, these vehicles can be driven on the track and the road.

Finding one for sale

Finding such a supercar is not easy, considering that only 500 models were produced in total. These are all scattered worldwide, so you might have to look international in some cases. Because some of them are displayed in museums and stored in garages of car collectors, finding a GT2 RS for sale might be more difficult than you thought.

Here are some sites that usually list the model:

  • duPont Registry
  • Cargurus
  • Autotrader
  • TrueCar
  • CarFax

How much do they cost?

Because it is so rare to find, the 911 GT2 RS is priced at around $380,000. It is a reasonable price for a vehicle ideal for tracks and roads, considering that a race car will cost way more.

Because the line is discontinued, you can’t reach out to Porsche and ask them to build another model for you. All the 911 GT2 RS’s are already built and delivered across the world. Your objective is to find owners of this vehicle that are willing to sell and negotiate the price and further details with them.

You can also reach out to vehicle dealers and certified companies that will look for such offers all over the world. Because they were manufactured in Germany, you will have a better chance of finding a GT2 RS for sale in Europe.

In that case, you might have to pay in Euros. Depending on the country, there might be a language barrier as well. There are also just 600 Porsche 911 GT3 RS models produced, so expanding your search might increase your chances.
