U-Shaped, V-Shaped & C-Shaped House Plans
House plans come in many different shapes and forms, including the ones that resemble letters of the alphabet like the U-shaped, although the L, H and V-shaped houses can also be found across the country.
People who want to make a grand impression, or simply have a luxurious house, can consider the U-shaped house plans on this site, as it permits for the house to be wrapped around a driveway going all the way up to the main entrance in the middle.
Do you have kids and want to keep them in the opposite side of the house because they make a lot of noise? Well, then this type of style could be for you, where you could have them each have a bedroom in one of the arms of the house.
Others may choose this style as it has the great ability of wrapping around a pool without the need for a specific pool house. It is really a remarkable style that will make sure you get the distinctive house you always wanted.
These homes come in both single-level options, or with pools in the middle, but more often than not they will have a ranch feel to them. You could also get it where you have a courtyard in the middle.
For these styles, that are often grandiose with their finishes, it is not uncommon to find expansive windows with massive sliding doors that let in heaps of natural light. This remarkable shape for a home gives you a bunch of possibilities simply not available for other homes, like those intended for narrow lots.
While our plans do provide the framework for the home, there are so many options when it comes to creating just the option that fits your taste. We are not saying that you should necessarily choose any of the finishes we recommend. No, we want you to get exactly the house that matches your biggest wishes and desires, with all the finishes that allow you to have the life style you deserve.
What we are seeing, however, is that there are some trends that seem to carry through with a lot of the people that choose the U-shaped homes, like the desire to have great open floor plans that will make your entire family feel more connected.
We’re also seeing a preference for big, modern finishes that create the perfect setting for making an entertainer’s heaven. If you already have the framework that provides a great option to have a majestic pool installed, why not go that one step further and also go for the kitchen that will allow you to show off your cooking skills, assuming of course, that you like cooking. Choosing a home that is well-equipped to entertain the lifestyle you want is the first step in getting that dream home that you’re sure will be your little piece of heaven for years to come.
While the usual thing is to have the U point either towards the front or the back of the house, there is also the option to have it point to the side, and rather have the courtyard there instead of the usual front. A lot of homes suffer from the usual traits of feeling very secluded when you’re doing a function like cooking. These house plans will traditionally seek to avoid that by having the kitchen and entertainment area in the middle of everything, usually also with a large dining area that ensures that no one has to walk a long distance with those edible art pieces you put passion into creating.
Whether you want to use one of the wings as a more isolated part of the house for your very own office, or whether you’re using it as your private gym, the options are many.
This shape is really meant for people that embrace that modern lifestyle, and often so also the various design elements that we keep seeing people put into these homes that include a lot of bright colors, high end finishes and often so “a lot” of minimalist ideas. There’s no need to clutter everything and block the natural sunlight that your home is giving you.
Besides seeing an inherent trend towards a clutter-free home, we’re also seeing that many homeowners opt to choose responsibly sourced materials for their various finishes, which can include everything from bamboo to reclaimed wood. While it is by no means a prerequisite for such a type of living, these homes do tend to appeal to a certain environmentally-conscious group of people, and while you may want those high end finishes (which we can’t blame you for – we absolutely love them too!), there are instances such as flooring and tile, where you can still get the luxurious, beautiful and modern lifestyle with a consideration for sustainability.
V-Shaped Options
If you’re in the market for something unique, something you may want to consider more closely is the V-shaped house plans. They provide great opportunities for making an exceptional greeting area, either with a courtyard or a landscaped area in the middle, the same way both H-shaped and U-shaped houses do.
While this style of house does warrant its own focus, they are definitely nowhere near as popular as some of the other contenders when families are building houses, even if they offer both the options for open concept or either single-story or multistory adventures.
If you do not see the V-shaped house plans you were hoping for, we encourage you to reach out to our customer support to see if there is anything we can do to hopefully make sure you are able to get the home you want. While the V-shape is a very distinct one, a much more common variation is the angled-garage house, which we also offer on this site.
Options With a Pool in The Middle
Whether you choose one style or the other, homeowners are really loving the way that the house plans coming in either a V-shape or a U-shape will allow you to have a pool in the middle, being wrapped by the rest of the house. This is in fact one of the predominant reasons why people are so fond of these two styles to start off with.
What’s better than being able to dip in a pool after a long day at work, and perhaps making some food outside too, while you’re at it. If you have kids, you know that they themselves will not just love the pool on a warm summer day, but your house may just end up being the place where they and all their friends hang out after school.
Besides being a great place to gather with the many things offered by it, it is also an excellent type of exercise, and may be a more sustainable way of getting the exercise in than having to go to a gym – and it all starts out with you choosing the right house plans.
Options With a Central Courtyard in the Middle
Besides a pool, U-shaped and V-shaped homes also offer a great possibility for putting a majestic courtyard in the middle of everything, which is great if you want to leave a major impression on the people that are coming to meet you. If you find an option on the site that you like, you can also always opt to have it turned 90 degrees so that it creates a C-shape instead of a U-shape, why you can have either a pool or courtyard on the side of the home depending on the way that you are turning the house plans.
Ranch-style, single-level 2 bedroom
Although there are a lot of users that like these homes in a very modern-style, there are other that like that traditional, single-level ranch-style to them, why we are actively making sure to onboard designers and architects that are willing to accommodate to those wishes, too, and why you’ll be able to find some, although currently not that many house plans in that style.
A lot of the options in these categories cater to the fact that people building these types of homes have slightly more that they want, which will mean there are usually a couple of extra bedrooms for guests. If you want something smaller, you can also set the settings on the site so that we’re only showing you U-shaped ones with 2 bedrooms, though.
C-shaped or “horseshoe”
Other names commonly used for this style may either include “C-shape” or horseshoe, where the former will usually have the entrance at the center of one wing rather than have it entirely in the middle of the entire house, which is the more common entrance for these homes.
While you may be thinking that the house needs to be turned one specific way, do remember that you are free to turn the house on your plot of land, so that it might go from a U to an upside U instead, if you think that works better for what it is you are trying to achieve.
Modern
While the modern look may not be for everyone, it definitely is popular among the people that visit this specific category of homes, why you will find that these are also the most common homes that we are focusing on getting more of, in order to better be able to accommodate our users’ wishes. Always remember that even if you are having certain specific features that you really want, and you are finding that it is either a central pool or certain aspects to the courtyard that you want to have added, all of these customizations are possible to have done with relative ease.
Garage or not?
Whether you want your new dream home to have a garage is of course a matter of personal preference, and while you could find that it sticks out like a sore thumb and ruins the symmetry of these homes, it might also be that you simply appreciate the function so much that you are willing to forego the potential for perfect symmetry with this option.
If you have several cars at home, you may also want to consider whether you just want a single garage or whether you are looking for something where both people are able to park inside. It’s a talk you will rather want to have with your significant other now rather than at a later point, where you would otherwise have to have alterations made, at a point where you might already have started the construction, too.
Single-story or 2-story home?
While there is a time and place where you may want a single-story home, and a lot of other times where a 2-story U-shaped beauty may be a better option, it really just is one more thing that you may want to be sure you think about in the process. While it may be easier to actually get 5, 6 or 7 bedrooms in if you’re building a taller house, these homes may not be great for aging couples where accessibility also starts becoming something that needs to be taken into account.
Open concept or ranch & craftsman feel?
While we mentioned that the more modern homes seem to be what a lot of our users are looking for in this specific category, where the open concept is extremely popular, there are also other options. Across the board, we find that many users do like that more traditional ranch or craftsman feel that many homes are made to have.
Small and simple or large, contemporary mansion?
Besides the various styles that you may be considering, it is also important that you figure out what size home you are really looking for. Do you want something that is more so on the smaller size, perhaps 1,800 to 2,000 square feet, which may generally be an average sized home, although it does tend to be on the smaller size for this type, or would you rather have a home that is on the bigger side for this category? Perhaps you want something in the range of 2,800 to 3,000 square feet. We do have a lot of different options that actually fall in the size category of mansions as well.
3, 4 or 5 bedrooms?
Our absolutely most popular homes in this category are ones that include either 3, 4 or 5 bedrooms. Just because you are building your dream home may not necessarily mean that you are looking to build something so big that has more bedrooms in it than you are realistically believing you will end up using.
If you are building that beautiful mountain home with an attached pool to it, and your intention is to use it as a getaway place for your friends and family, all you may need is 3 bedrooms, whereas if you are planning on bringing more people together, 5 may be the magical number.
