Spanish-Style Colonial House Floor Plans
While the term “colonial homes” is usually used to refer to the colonial homes inspired by British style, the Spanish-style colonial homes and their house plans are often thought to have a significantly larger amount of charm to them, why we’re dedicating this specific page to those homes.
These types of homes first came over and were built in the US, when the Spaniards came over, where they started popping up in places like California and Florida. Naturally, rather than bringing over all the building materials, the settlers would start using the materials available to them in the places they settled down. With colonies settling down across the various parts of the country, originating from different parts of Spain, you’ll see slight variations in the style of the houses, too, depending on the region the original settlers came from.
Although that may be the case, the homes still often include the typical Mediterranean, and also Tuscan feel, having thick walls that was used before the invention of air conditioners, as this would help keep the building cool during those warm summer months. Additionally, in the class of colonial homes, you will also find that those inspired by settlers originating from the South will have more steep roofs, a measure taken to help with ventilation. Dutch settlers would bring over the Dutch Colonial influence that included less steep gabrel roofs, for instance.
Having a courtyard is one of the reasons why the Spanish-style home is so popular, because it doesn’t just look majestic, it is also able to provide so much functionality and can be turned into that grand salute that you’ve always wanted to be able to provide.
When someone drives up to a house just to be greeted by a beautiful courtyard in front, you know that is a home that will draw attention. If you’re not having to settle with the limitations available on a narrow lot of land, the addition of a courtyard isn’t just the next level. No, it is many levels above it, and for good reason.
While a grand courtyard shows that this is not a force to be reckoned with, many of the options on this page allows the charm and a lot of the functionality while still providing a smaller entrance. This is also the perfect place to either put a small garden, a patio or a contemporary, while still true-to-taste water fountain.
U-Shaped or H-shaped providing the option of an inner courtyard
We mentioned the many different options there are for you when it comes to what it actually is you’re hoping to achieve with a courtyard, but you should also know that there are certain house styles that you can take advantage of that will allow you to incorporate these various features in ways that will really stand out.
With either style, you’re getting something majestic, something that isn’t just your average rectangular home, but rather something that will wow people as they drive by. Have you wanted to impress both your neighbors and your family alike? Well, that specific style could just be what you’re looking for.
While you can find mansion floor plans of 20,000 square feet, with this home style that won’t be necessary.
Modern and luxurious mansions
While a lot of the options on this page do have very significant elements of either being luxurious mansions, or being very modern in their interpretation of the Spanish style, we also have a bunch of options that are a lot more budget friendly in the more average size range of the scale.
When it comes to these homes, a lot of our users are requesting that they have basements for a number of different reasons, but one good reason why someone might want a basement could either be to get that personal gym of yours, or they may have other reasons why a home gym is so appealing to them. For some, the idea of installing your very own wine den is what drives them to their true desire to get a basement.
What would be a better idea than not just have the possibility to store all the wine you may need, but travel around the Mediterranean for a couple of months looking for those wine producers all over, and see if you could convince them to send some of it over to your home?
Having a well-stocked wine den would surely be something that would be admired by your friends and family, and we are convinced they wouldn’t mind when you bring out some of those heavenly liquids over a tasty meal either. Just go ahead and use the filters to sort the house plans that include basements in them so that you won’t need to have them altered afterwards for this very specific request.
If you’re living in an area that has beautiful weather year round like California, for instance, what would be better than also making sure that the floor plan has a pool included? Put up a nice outdoor kitchen by the side of your pool while you’re serving up one of those bottles of wine from your basement that you have been aging for 5 or 6 years while the kids are playing by the pool – is there anything else that could make the entire situation sound any better?
If you have a bunch of good weather and you have the space needed in order to comfortably have a pool, we personally know that we’d jump on that opportunity to spend some fantastic summer evenings for years to come.
While the translation of hacienda is the Spanish word for an estate, when someone hears this word, what they think of are grand creations that often look a lot like the traditional Spanish-style homes.
These homes are beautiful with expansive plans, usually located on massive lots of land, without being overly tall. Some of the features you usually find inside include cobblestone patios and beautiful fireplaces in central spaces that people can gather around, while having kitchens detached from other parts of the house.
While you may have fallen in love with the Spanish style when you were touring Europe years ago and you vowed to regain access to that nice, relaxed lifestyle that dominates the area, getting your own house that seems true to the style may be the easiest alternative without having to actually move there.
Our various options include everything from a 2, 3 or 4 bedroom place, all the way up to the significantly bigger options that have 8 bedrooms, perfect for the family that loves hosting large gatherings, giving your guests an easy way to stay the night, should they desire to do so. With their usual square footage, you will also find that several of the options have more than one kitchen, and you can then easily have guests staying with you for a significant amount of time, however still allowing everyone their private time when they need it. These options are all great options, allowing you the space and comfort to do exactly as you please.
We want to give you the opportunity to build the home you have always been dreaming of and finding the right house, and we hope that your journey towards that adventure starts here, with one of the many house plans for you to choose from.
